A diverse coalition of Seattle faith and social justice groups gathered on Saturday, February 9, 2013 to pray, march and demonstrate for an end to gun violence.
Read the Seattle P-I Blog article about the march. The photo album includes beautiful pictures of the children’s choir and much more. See the KING-TV news report from St. Mark’s Cathedral. See KOMO-TV’s story on the march and its place in the gun violence debate. Also a great KIRO-TV story and this wonderful post from the Capitol Hill Blog.
The evening’s schedule included:
- 5:30 pm Gathering in the nave of St. Mark’s Cathedral (1245 Tenth Ave E) for a Vigil of Prayer and Lamentation
- 6:00 pm March by candlelight south along Tenth Avenue, down Broadway, west on Madison and south on Ninth Ave.
- 7:00 pm Gathering in the nave of St. James Cathedral (804 Ninth Ave) for a call to action against gun violence.
Sponsors of the march included St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, St. James Catholic Cathedral, the Church Council of Greater Seattle, First United Methodist Church of Seattle and Faith Action Network of Washington.
was it a bad suggestion to have a meal and peaceable fellowship after the march?
Not a bad idea, just something that would take much time to plan with little time left before the event. We’ll remember this for next time. Thanks!
This sounds like a wonderful event. However, I hope it’s not just another anti-gun rally. Most of all, I would hope it reaches the people who conduct violent acts with guns. Peace begins in the hearts of individuals. Until we recognize that we all have responsibility for peace, all guns could disappear from the face of the earth, and people would simply use other weapons.
How do you reach those outcasts who commit violence they are mostly disenfranchised males.
We are our brothers keepers
looking forward to participating in this event..bringing attention and as a collective group march together to petition prayers and hope for change in a positive force..we can no longer sit back and do nothing !
Will this event be televised for those of us that are too far away?
Sorry, we won’t be televising it, however we do anticipate TV stations present to show some highlights.
